Waving "Hallo" from Berlin, Germany 👋

Hi, I am a CS graduate turned backend engineer, data scientist, data engineer and eventually data engineering manager. I grew up in Berlin, explored the world for a while and then returned to my hometown. Which has conveniently grown into a regional tech hub since I came back.
Someone recommended the Coding Career book to me. I enjoyed it a lot. Especially the "Strategy" section, I wish I had that information when I was starting my career. I find career strategy quite fascinating, it is something I think about a lot.

The best advice I heard for my early career was from Cal Newport's book of the same title: "Be so good they can't ignore you".  Focussing my job choices on building up skills has reliably helped me whenever I did it. And when I did not, my career suffered.

I write an irregular blog and newsletter about the "soft side of software engineering" at https://ellenkoenig.de/blog.
